Taking Care of Your Cowboy Boots: From A to Z

If you have purchased a pair of cowboy boots, it goes without saying that you shelled out a fair amount of money. As such, you need to handle the boots with care so that they last long.

It will help if you do away with the rough ways of handling things and adopt a careful approach when it comes to storing and maintaining your pair of cowboy boots after you use them.

So, let us explore the proper ways of taking care of your pair of cowboy boots:

Avoid Heat

You should make sure that you keep your boots away from the vicinity of direct heat. If you fail to do so, then there are ample chances of your pair of cowboy boots getting damaged. And the damage could be beyond repair.

Storing

The longevity of your pair of cowboy boots depends a lot on where you store them after use. It will help if you store them in a well-ventilated area. And if they get wet, let them dry slowly without being exposed to direct heat.

Cleaning & Polishing

You should keep stuff, like dirt or dust, away from your boots. Therefore, you should not fall behind in cleaning your pair of boots regularly. You can use a dry cloth or rag to rub your cowboy boots’ surface to remove all dirt particles that sit on the surface.

Conditioning

The next step after cleaning is to condition them to prevent cutting away or drying out the leather. You need to apply a good quality conditioner to your cowboy boots so that the leather can maintain moisture and thus remain soft. But use a conditioner that is compatible with the leather of your boots. However, you should refrain from using water as that will leave the leather vulnerable to cracking over time.

As there is no specific quantity of conditioner recommended for a particular boot, you can go on applying until it is enough. You can stop when the conditioner stops soaking in, vanishing, and dampening the leather surface.

Subsequently, allow the boots to rest until the conditioner is fully absorbed.

Polishing

A shiny pair of cowboy boots look great. And to keep them shining, you need to polish them. It would be best if you used a boot polish that is appropriate for their hue and texture. While polishing, apply polish in thin layers and buff in between layers until the boots shine to your desired finish.

Spraying

It is the last step. You need to spray your boots with a water and stain protectant to keep your boots free of stains and water spots.
